COLIN HAMILTON

Colin HamiltonI am a marathon runner who never imagined I would be. The idea never even crossed my mind.

I lived a sedentary lifestyle for most of my adulthood, but in early 2010, I started running short distances. After a year of haphazard self-training, I ran my first half marathon. By then, running had grown on me, and I realized that I needed to learn how to train properly.

On the advice of a good friend, I joined the Houston FIT Fall full-marathon group and have been a member ever since. As of now, I have run five full marathons, including San Antonio, Austin (twice), D.C. MCM, and Seabrook. What started as a chore to “stay in shape” has grown into a passion of mine.

AL BACON

Running, for me, started as a way to lose weight and get in shape. I hit a big birthday and was feeling like I needed to do something different to get me moving again.  I joined “Power in Motion” and did my first 5K.  Two months later I signed up with Houston Fit to do my first half marathon.  Right after that, I decided a full marathon wouldn’t be too bad and have since completed 5 marathons and 15 half marathons.  I’ve been an assistant coach with Houston Fit for approximately 8 seasons.   Five years ago if anyone had told me that I would get up consistently at 4:30 a.m. four days a week to go run with a group, I would’ve told them that they were crazy.  Running, now, is a part of my life.  Even if I’m not training for race, I am running.  I’ve made lasting friendships with people would never crossed paths with in my daily life as well as developed habits that will serve me well as long as I’m alive.   It has truly changed my life.

When I’m not running, I’m probably trying to rescue a dog or find someone who will.  Also, I am Chairman of my Rodeo committee and volunteer my time to numerous non-profit organizations .  I live with my husband of 21 years and our four furry “children” in The Heights.  I’ve been in sales with Cisco Systems for 10 years.

STEFFANIE HOANG

My first introduction to running was done as conditSteve Houston Marathon Picioning or punishment in school athletics.  I did the occasional 5K with my dad who was and still is passionate about running.  However, I didn’t really discover the joy of running until I turned 30.  Now it is a major part of me because of the great friends I’ve made as well as being in the best shape of my life.  Early morning runs erase the stress and monotony of daily life.  You will find me out running most morning year round.

I try to do at least two marathons a year and several half marathons to keep it fun.  My great running friends find a fall marathon and we make a mini-vacation out of it.  The Houston Marathon is a also a must do each year.

Outside of running, I am a Technology Project Manager for a local school district.  I also enjoy Jeeps and being outdoors.  I have a great wife that supports my running.  We have two boys, 5 and 3 years old, and two dogs (one of which was found by Tonya Jacks while running – see other bio).
